Low-Sodium Resources for Boomers and Physicians

Why Low-Sodium Resources?  Because studies show that                                     sodium is an independent risk factor for heart disease.

At least 60 million Americans have high blood pressure, which means pressure above 140/90 that puts them at risk for heart disease.  The four best ways to lower blood pressure without medication are to STOP SMOKING FOREVER, keep your weight down, walk a mile a day, and cut down on all the sodium lurking in your diet.

Because very few people know what all that sodium in salt, jello, preserved foods, brine, soups, bread, pies, cookies, macaroni, cheese, chili can do to their blood pressure, their kidneys, their hearts. we're here to tell you what you ought to know about sodium to stay healthy.  The trick is to READ every label on every product and every recipe.  "Low-fat" does NOT mean "Low-sodium." Many low-fat products are HIGHER in sodium.

The Goal: NO MORE THAN 2,000 mg. SODIUM PER DAY.
